I want to invite all of you to the farewell Mass and reception for our beloved deacon and for the last five years—pastoral associate of our parish, Deacon
David Dawson. On the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22, Deacon Dave will preach at all our liturgies to say “farewell” before he departs to begin three years of priestly formation at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. God willing, our new Bishop Michael Duca, will ordain him a priest for our diocese in May of 2021.
None of you will be surprised to know that in the course of the past five years, Deacon Dave has become a dear friend of mine, just as he has for many of
you. When I came to Sacred Heart five years ago, Deacon Dave had just been ordained to the diaconate, and though we did not know each other at the time, we
immediately “clicked.” Soon after beginning his assignment in the parish, Deacon Dave registered as a member of Sacred Heart, and he has been untiring in his diaconal service to our parishioners and to the members of our school community. For one, Deacon Dave has been an invaluable co-worker, confidant, counselor, and companion. Though I will miss him, I am heartened by the knowledge that he will be a seminarian from Sacred Heart of Jesus Church! That means he will, no doubt, come back to visit us, and if he is indeed ordained, one day celebrate his “First Mass” as a priest in our beautiful church.
On behalf of all of you, our parishioners, I want to thank Deacon Dave for his labor of love and his friendship throughout the years…and also promise that we will support him with our continued friendship and prayer. There will be a reception in his honor following the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, July 22, in the Parish Hall, and you are all invited to come!
